MMA Foundation Projects
In cooperation with the medical schools of University of Minnesota and Mayo Medical Center, the MMA Foundation annually awards four-year scholarships to promising students.
Currently, the MMA Foundation is working with the Minnesota Department of Health’s Office of Rural Health and Primary Care on plans to help rural communities attract physicians to practice in under-served rural areas through the Rural Physician Loan Repayment Program.
The MMA Foundation also supports the publication of the MMA Quality Review, a supplement to Minnesota Medicine. Its purpose is to help physicians continuously improve quality of care and stay aware of the quality-improvement efforts underway in Minnesota.
The Foundation has provided support for the play The Power of the Pyramid and the educational materials that go with it that aim to help school children understand the importance of good nutrition and regular physical activity. This educational program is part of the MMA’s efforts to prevent childhood obesity.
Founded in 1958, the MMA’s charitable foundation changed its name from the Minnesota Physicians Foundation to the Minnesota Medical Association Foundation in 2007. Traditionally, the Foundation has focused on supporting the next generation of physicians. Recently, its mission and activities were expanded to include improving access to high-quality health care as well as providing scholarships to medical students.
