Governance & Leadership
As an MMA member, you have many opportunities to shape policy and select leaders. Learn more about the way the MMA is governed.
The MMA Board of Trustees manages the ongoing affairs of the MMA. The board consists of 15 voting members and two ex-officio, non-voting members. Voting members of the board include MMA officers (President, President-Elect, Immediate Past President, Secretary/Treasurer, Chair), and representatives from across the state, across specialties and across different practice settings. With the exception of one voting member appointed by the MMA Policy Council, all officers and trustees are elected by MMA membership.
AMA delegates and alternate delegates represent the positions of the MMA and help develop AMA policies on national health care issues. Elected by the MMA membership, they attend the AMA Annual Meeting and Interim Meeting. No officer or trustee, except the president-elect, president or immediate past president, may serve as an AMA delegate or alternate delegate.
To improve MMA governance effectiveness, to identify board education and development opportunities, and to conduct leadership and board assessments.
On September 22, 2018 the MMA House of Delegates voted to sunset the House. Background information on the decisions and process to arrive at this decision can be found here.
