  • Minnesota Health Commissioner Brooke Cunningham, MD, PhD, will share the many ways that the state is partnering with Minnesota physicians, and what opportunities exist for continued collaborations.

Panel discussion with Q&A: "Examining the Dynamics of Physician Practice: Employment, Ownership and Private Investment"

Panelists: Julia Reiland, JD; Rebecca Givan, PhD, and Michael Cumming, MD Convener: Cindy Firkins Smith, MD

  • Healthcare experts will discuss the many ways that healthcare is evolving from a business point of view, and what this means for physicians and the practice of medicine. The panel will discuss trends and factors revolving around (1) collective bargaining; (2) private equity investments; and (3) independent/physician-owned practices.

"Effectively Approaching and Resolving Conflict: A Necessary Skill in Today’s Healthcare Environment "
Led by Martin Stillman, MD, JD

  • In this workshop, participants will learn conflict resolution techniques through didactic instruction and interactive skills practice from a practicing academic physician-attorney-mediator with extensive experience and training in the art and science of conflict resolution and mediation within healthcare. Specifically, participants will learn pre-planning steps to take prior to meetings where conflict resolution will be addressed, how to identify common interests behind competing positions in order to generate solutions that work for everyone, and how to put specific follow-up plans in place that give the best chance for post-resolution success.
