The work of racial justice and healing requires more inclusive narratives.
This initiative arose from the call to address the harmful effects of racism, microaggressions, and implicit bias on physicians from marginalized groups and communities. Efforts toward making medicine more inclusive require an understanding of the experiences of these physicians, and reconciliation requires providing a platform for those most impacted to communicate their narrative.
Workshop Registration Now Open
On November 18 from 5 to 6:30 pm, the MMA will host the 90-minute virtual workshop Reckoning with Racism in Medicine.
This interactive workshop will feature compelling video stories from physicians of color about their experiences studying and practicing medicine in Minnesota. Through critical dialogue and reflection, this workshop will inspire understanding, compassion, and the motivation to work toward an anti-racist culture of medicine in Minnesota. Participants will:
- Identify issues faced by physicians from marginalized groups
- Explain how racism in medicine relates to health equity and workforce diversity
- Recognize actions and steps needed to develop a more inclusive culture of medicine

Racism in Medicine Course Available:
On July 25, 2023, the MMA hosted a virtual symposium to launch the video series and hear from a panel of the featured physicians. This was an opportunity to discuss emergent issues relating to racism in medicine and uplift a call to action. This event is now available as an online course. 1.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ are available.
