New Mental Health Crisis Lifeline Launches July 16

Starting July 16, people facing a mental health crisis can dial 988 to connect to support. The change is part of a nationwide effort to transition the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline to a phone number people can more easily remember and access in times of crisis. The shift also includes an online chat feature and new texting option.
CMS Releases Proposed Medicare Physician Fee Schedule for 2023

On July 7, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released a proposed rule for the 2023 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS). The MPFS sets physician reimbursement under Medicare and serves as the basis of payment schedules used by most public and private payers.
Abortion Restrictions Struck Down by Minnesota District Court

On July 11, a Ramsey County District judge ruled that several Minnesota laws restricting abortion access violate the state Constitution. The ruling was effective immediately.

First Monkeypox Cases Confirmed in Minnesota

This past week, the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) reported the first cases of monkeypox virus infection in the state of Minnesota. One patient likely was exposed while traveling abroad; the other was not traveling.
