No commitments. No commutes. No calendars. With The Pulse, the MMA’s online policy development tool, you can shape MMA policy whenever and wherever you have internet access.

Here's How:

  • All policy proposals, whether submitted by MMA committees or individual MMA members, must be formally adopted by the MMA Board of Trustees (BOT) to become official MMA policy.
  • Before the BOT acts on a policy proposal, all MMA members are given two weeks to vote and comment on the proposal. This is called a “pre-board voting period.” While pre-board voting results do not directly affect proposal passage, the BOT reviews the results to inform their decisions. It is common for BOT members to discuss themes from pre-board voting comments. Sometimes these discussions lead to proposal amendments.
  • All MMA members are sent an email when a pre-board voting period opens for a proposal. These emails contain personalized log-in links that take you directly to your personal voting page. If you don’t receive these emails, please contact us at mma@mnmed.org.
  • Please note that use of The Pulse indicates your acceptance of the terms set forth in The Pulse User Agreement. Any votes or comments you submit will be viewable by fellow MMA members for transparency.

  • The MMA Board of Trustees (BOT) can take one of several actions when considering a policy proposal:
    • Adopt without amendments,
    • Adopt with amendments,
    • Refer to a committee, or
    • Reject
  • Once the MMA Board of Trustees (BOT) acts on a given policy proposal, all MMA members are given one week to vote and comment on how the BOT acted. This is called a “post-board voting period.” Post-board voting results provide the BOT with feedback for how they ultimately acted on a given policy proposal, considering feedback provided by members during the “pre-board voting period.”
  • All MMA members are sent an email when a post-board voting period opens for a BOT action.

  • If you believe that current MMA policy does not sufficiently address an issue pertaining to health or medical practice in Minnesota, you may use The Pulse to submit your own policy proposal.
  • To submit a policy proposal, you must manually log-into The Pulse and click “Submit Proposal” in the upper toolbar. The video above provides some additional instructions.
  • Once you submit your proposal, it will undergo a “staff review process.”
  • Please note that use of The Pulse indicates your acceptance of the terms set forth in The Pulse User Agreement.
